Vietnam- the final days

Halong Bay

We returned to Hanoi before 5am and joined our Halong Bay bus tour at 9.30am with complimentary use of a room in the hotel for the time in between! After a 3hour bus journey and some hanging around we boarded our boat and left port. Our group once again was a great bunch, with some Irish and also an American/Canadian gang who had just finished a years teaching stint in South Korea. It was fun to chat about the good old days in Korea, probably to the boredom of everyone else!

-on the 200,000 note shows the rocks behind us in this picture-

We toured some ‘Amazing Caves’, kayaked and admired the spectacular world heritage site that is Halong Bay. Beautiful.

We had a private en-suite room on board, basic but with incredible views.

The following morning- after a night on the happy water- we visited Ca Ba island. Unfortunately it rained during our hike, but that didn’t deter from the islands beauty.

Our island hotel was surprisingly good and after lunch, dinner and breakfast we checked out and returned to Hanoi on our tour via bus, boat and bus once again. Back in Hanoi on our last night we prepared for our flight the next morning in Kuala Lumpur to meet my mummy before flying to Bali for some serious holidaying.

Vietnam for me was probably my favourite place thus far. We covered a lot in a month, had some amazing tours, it was incredible value for money and everything went well for us. Although the same can’t be said for everyone as we met many travellers en route who had been robbed, mugged or had a horrible story of assault. A lot of these tales involved alcohol or carelessness- although this is no excuse for the terrible actions of some few Vietnamese who give the country a bad name. Keep a smile on your face, your wallet under wraps and your wits about you and you’ll have a wonderful Vietnamese adventure as we did.
